Jill Hamburg-Coplan is a veteran journalist, freelance writer for international nonprofits and corporations, and a university writing teacher. She began her career with two decades covering breaking news, finance and investing, international development and public policy, religion and social conflict on staff at major newspapers (Newsday), wire services (United Press International- Jerusalem and Bloomberg News-New York) and magazines (Working Woman and BusinessWeek).She has contributed freelance to publications including The New York Times, Martha Stewart Living, Parents, Self, and Barron’s. Her essays have appeared in two literary anthologies, and her journalism has been entered onto the record in public hearings and reprinted in a number of university textbooks.
In 2000, Jill joined the faculty at New York University’s College of Arts & Sciences as an adjunct journalism professor, and she continues to teach there. She was also appointed an adjunct in journalism at St. John’s University in the Department of Mass Communications in 2012. In 2011-2012, Jill was a Fulbright Scholar in China. She lectured throughout China on the American media, offered master classes to English writing teachers, and taught journalism and international communications to Chinese students at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Jill regularly teaches writing to professionals outside the university context, in person and online. She offers lectures as well as half-day, and one- and two-day workshops, along with one-on-one coaching to professionals in the nonprofit and corporate sectors.
As a publications consultant, Jill has written, edited, and managed the production of reports, Websites, fundraising brochures, white papers, and customer newsletters for clients including United Nations Development Programme, Girl Scouts USA, Fidelity, New York University’s Stern School of Business, Montclair State University, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Smith Barney, Merrill Lynch, American Baby, and American Express.
Beverly Hyman is President of Beverly Hyman, Ph.D. and Associates, an international organizational development and training firm in business for over 20 years. With offices in New York City Dr. Hyman provide communications consulting and training, facilitation, leadership development, executive coaching and needs analysis to international firms and organizations and their boards.
Patricia and Beverly initially met while running workshops in Indonesia for UNDP and have formed a close friendship over the years, sharing experiences, best practices and their passion for their international work. Dr. Hyman has chaired the board of NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development from 2007-2010. She also serves on a variety of boards of arts organizations.
