Captured by a smile; an engaging presence

Dining at Tasha’s in Johannesburg is always a delightful experience but a recent visit was a particularly memorable one.

Simply stated – we had the most charming, engaging, attentive waiter ever.

What did he do that made us feel so special? His whole face lit up with his broad white smile, he leaned ever so slightly forward, head a little tilted, to take our order. He made excellent eye contact and checked that he had recorded the order just right. And he returned numerous times to see if we were happy. He made us feel we were the only customers he cared for.

My dining companions agreed with me; we all felt the difference here. I have surely experienced fine service many times before…so what made this feel so much more special?

I believe it had something to so with his exceptionally divine smile, the pride he felt for his job and the commitment he felt to ensuring our satisfaction. At the heart of it – he showed his enthusiasm for his service, delivered well.

Thank you Jacob for the best toasted chicken mayo sandwich ever!

I recently completed re-reading Danny Meyers thought-provoking book, “Setting the Table”. It contains so many life lessons. Danny would be proud of you Jacob!

Oh yes, this does indeed relate to making engaging presentations. You can easily figure out how…
